REPORT | Barrow Raiders 6 Doncaster RLFC 38

The message was to get back to basics in response to last weekend's defeat and that's exactly what the Dons delivered today.

After a battling first half the Dons went through the gears in the second, putting on an impressive display beating Barrow 6-38 and collecting the two points to take back to South Yorkshire.

It was the vistors that struck first after only three minutes, Watson Boas tapping in a lovely little kick for Brad Hey to latch on to and ground. Craig Hall unable to convert.

Despite a quick start from Doncaster the opening 15 was an even battle, a response from Barrow after going four behind came through back to back sets after a couple of Dons errors.

Reece Lyne looked to get the visitors back on the front foot getting his side back up the pitch after intercepting a kick and gaining 30 metres after a spell of defending.

Just after the quarter of an hour mark Barrow thought they were in down their right hand side but the attacker had just stepped out of play on his way through.

Doncaster continued to try and win the momentum battle with Lovodua and Boas causing problems in the attacking areas, Barrow really struggled to get a hold of them. Briscoe followed up some good play almost finding a way through as Doncaster maintained their attack with six again after an error by the hosts.

The Dons using their set to probe right, then left looking for a way through eventually taking Barrow in behind their own touchline for another set.

The pressure from the Dons continued and their second set was used well, Lovodua going over and Hall adding the extras.

Half an hour in the visitors thought they were in again through Misi Taulapapa, but the ref ruled it out. Lovely attacking play from the Dons though, right to left with some slick passing.

Moments later Barrow offer up something by way of attack, forcing their way over to get themselves back in the game. Ellis Gillam with the try and Ryan Shaw converting.

The Dons edged the first half, forcing errors and using the ball well in attacking areas, constantly looking threatening but Barrow still very much in the game.

The Dons started the second period with real intent, sustaining attacks and forcing errors from the home side. The home side proving a tough nut to crack though defending their line well.

The pressure continued on Barrow's defence being forced to kick behind. That proved just too much with the following atttack cracking the Barrow defence, Ben Johnston finding a way through with Connor Robinson now on the pitch taking over kicking duties, adding two.

It was on the hour mark that Doncaster really started to go through the gears, lovely footwork from Boas leaving several Barrow players in his wake, handing off to Hall to go over. Robinson making it 6-22.

The Dons continued to dominate the second period leading into the 65th minute, completing sets and making smart decisions in defence.

Frustration began getting the better of Barrow with a string of errors giving the Dons even more momentum.

In the 71st minute Boas continued to cause all sorts of problems for the hosts and just after he thought he'd got through, the Dons switch it from centre to left and there's no stopping Pauli Pauli from there as he powered over. Robinson adding the extras taking it to 6-28.

Three minutes from time and another Dons try didn't flatter the Doncaster second half performance.

The try this time from Reece Lyne, again forcing his way over. Barrow seemingly couldn't stop the barrage of attacking sets.

The energy battle was mentioned during the week and Doncaster certainly won that, more slick passing from the Dons finished with Briscoe going over at the far end with ease and Robinson notching another kick to end a dominant away performance.

The Dons are back in action Sunday, April 28 at the Eco-Power Stadium as they host Dewsbury Rams.
